Amtrak was looking to improve the transparency of its financial accounting and capital planning processes, and to improve operating efficiencies. Amtrak Engineering was using spreadsheets to consolidate budget forecasts when preparing capital budget requests to Congress. This process was labor-intensive and required careful analysis to ensure that the consolidation of these spreadsheets didn't introduce new errors that could result in Amtrak being under-funded by millions of dollars. As a safeguard against error and a solution to time management, Amtrak implemented EcoSys, to consolidate and automate their planning and reporting processes, with a much smaller percentage of error and increased visibility for both bottom-up and top-down forecasting.
