Defense Media Activity (DMA), a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), provides news, information and entertainment to U.S. forces around the world. DMA is designed to modernize and streamline media operations by consolidating military service and DoD media components into a single, joint, integrated multimedia communications organization.
With an annual budget exceeding $250M, DMA identified the need for a new software solution that would deliver Budget Planning and Analysis Support. As a new organization created as a result of Base Realignment and Closure 2005, DMA faced challenges that included an inability to effectively compile different budgets and summarize the information in various reporting formats at each hierarchical level, as well as difficulty providing an audit trail of budget changes and allocations.
EcoSys EPC (Enterprise Planning & Controls) was selected as the budgeting solution for DMA that would provide budget requirements planning, analysis and decision support services. Now implemented, the web-based solution collects and houses internal budget data and provides DMA with the ability to analyze, group, and "slice and dice" the information—enabling them to fully develop and document the details for the DoD level budget. DMA uses EcoSys EPC as an integral part of their budget allocation process.
