Today, contractors and owners in industries from mining and energy to transportation and IT are demanding greater visibility into project performance. Success, as defined by low cost and schedule variance, is maximized by access to timely information that can proactively shape business decisions. Expectations are growing higher, yet Project Controllers are facing increased project complexity, volatility and information dispersion.
In this presentation, we discuss the most significant hindrances to effective cost controls. These challenges emerge from various sources ranging from organizational readiness to the design of processes and systems. Then, referencing case studies of both contractors and owners, we identify the project controls best practices — including process standardization, system integration, and report automation — that organizations are implementing to achieve higher-quality information more quickly and to realize more successful projects.
